One Point Perspective's

This past week we've been practicing our one point perspectives, it all started with the junk drawer, then evolved to the shadow boxes of objects from that drawer. And this week we were to draw three locations around school using what we'd learned. Our locations were somewhere in the Gatewood, the EUC and the library. And after those 3 were done in our sketchbook, we had to take one and clean it up for an 18x24" piece of paper. For my final one I chose to do mine of the Natuzzi lounge.

DIALOG (it means the first all-nighter)

So our last project was a continuation sort of thing dealing with our last studio project which was UNITY. This one new involved the same materials, something I'm getting quite used to... bristol board & bamboo skewers. Oh and 12 as well (same as last time). However this assignment was the create 2 separate spaces using these materials and our bristol board couldn't be cut or manipulated in anyway, with the exception of 1 fold and no more. Ultimately we were trying to achieve DIALOG within these spaces. We had to create our model, do 4 drawings which were a plan, two elevations, and a section. And lastly our parti or collage. So firstly I'd like to say my ideas changed completely from my original one I had up in my head, but I wanted to integrate my base physically into the project which I was extremely happy with as a decision, because I didn't really see it done in anyone else's. But here are my original sort of ideas.

FIRST MODEL

SECOND MODEL

I'd like to say that I enjoyed what I was doing to the base by integrating it, but the 12 pieces of bristol board is where I was drawing a blank, because I just wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with them, my third model, I went for something a bit different but didn't really like it...

THIRD MODEL

FOURTH MODEL

Now my fourth model is where I actually established some shape I was really digging, so that's what I decided to roll with for my LAST model!

FIFTH & FINAL MODEL!

Alright, now here are my draftings which I stayed at studio all night (LITERALLY) Tuesday working on, but it was good to go on ahead and get that out of the way.

RENDERING (since there was time)

And lastly there is my parti which changed completely from my initial one.

So I think I've gave you enough to digest for now, I'm gonna blog some beginning sketches when I get a chance and probably scan in my rendering to show better detail.

THANKS!

The First Floor Plan

Last week we were given a handout and told that we would be drafting our first floor plans. So of course everyone was a bit nervous, but I was actually excited because it'd had been so long since I had done one and I love the precision of them truthfully. This was the house we were to draft...

This was what the floor plan was to look like, and not all the dimensions they had listed were correct so we were to try and figure some of them out for ourselves.

Our drawing was to be at 1/4" scale and this was my final outcome.

Learning One-Point Perspectives

So my previous post about the junk drawer, well after that we had to create shadow like boxes for 10 of the objects in our drawer using them in a perspective and we were to show our process along with a clean final. And for mine I did my grid sort of system and boxes on bond and then used a piece of vellum to draw my objects and such on.

Drafting My 3D Model

So a couple weeks ago I started an ongoing sort of entry in which we had to create 220 thumbnails and then create 4 3D models based on our last set of 4 drawings. Then once that was said and done, we had to draft one of the four models and create a perspective too. Before showing you I'll tell you that we had to work on an 24x26" piece of bond paper which was pretty insane and just annoying at time. Also I scanned my drawing in for some dumb reason, so I apologize if everything doesn't line up just right.

Oh and sorry this took so long to post!

My Junk Drawer

Last Thursday we were given a new assignment in which we had to practice our shading in pen using techniques such as hatching and crosshatching. A junk drawer is what we were going for, basically just random objects which you'd find in some junky drawer. This was my outcome.

New Wacom Bamboo Tablet

So for my birthday I ordered me my own present which was Wacom's new line of drawing tablets which has touch features such as a MacBook does, so it's super cool. I'm trying to get a feel for it nonetheless, it's a pretty awesome piece of technology. I feel like it deserves a name but I haven't decided on a good one just yet...

Sketchin Da Interior Spaces

Our newest sketchbook assignment was to draw 5 interior spaces with figures in them, for mine I drew some more because I honestly didn't like some. I will say I enjoyed the roughness of these sketches and how fast you could do them. There's something nice about that, here was mine!

Enjoying Fall Break

Well it's Fall break and I've got a sketchbook assignment to start still but I've been looking at Herman Miller furniture like crazy lately. So I used it as a chance to color with my ChartPak markers and first I sketched the Embody chair which is incredible and man I want one!

Next we have their Leaf Personal Light which is also gorgeous, I think eventually when I'm on my own I am definitely going to try and own one piece of Herman Miller furniture.

But you should definitely visit the Herman Miller site and check out all of their products.

Unity Through Skewers & Bristol Board

This project has been on-going now for about 2 weeks I'd say, we were to take 12 bamboo skewers and 12 4x6" pieces of bristol board and somehow find a way to unify these two different materials. The only rule was the 4x6" cards had to remain 4x6 in size and we couldn't cut the skewers at all. I had many different sketches in the beginning, it began something like this.

From these I honestly just started experimenting and I had three ideas I worked with one of which I never got to complete which was to bend the skewers and build the object upward but I let the skewers soak for about three days, but they never really got where I felt confident enough to work with them. So here were my two initial models.

My first model, I honestly liked the way it looked but nothing about it felt unified because I made it and the whole time I was kind of almost winging what I was doing. And well the second one was a very simple idea... weaving I guess you'd say and I liked the way it came out and saw that no one really had an idea like it so I stuck to it and here was my final outcome along with the draftings of the final piece.
